I hope you are all having a great week! I made these hot cross buns two nights ago, and as you can see from my pictures, they were devoured within minutes! I only added blackcurrants to the dough mixture but you can add mixed peep and raisins if you want to as well. I added a pinch of cinnamon to the recipe to give it more of a wholesome flavour. I always daunted making these yummy buns as they looked quite complicated to make- but I assure you that is not the case! They are easy to make and honestly, once you have the dough mixture down, then you've officially mastered the hardest part.
15g fresh yeast
30g caster sugar
-Simply mixture together with a whisk.
Combine the flour, yeast, salt and sugar in a bowl and set aside.
Then in a pan, heat up the milk and butter, until the butter is melted.
Whisk the egg and keep it separately.
Once the milk mixture is warm, add it to the flour mixture, then add the egg.
Whisk on slow speed till all the liquid is combine well. Put the dough into a lightly oiled bowl,
and leave to rise (covered with a towel over the bowl) for about 1h30min.
After the dough has risen, knead it slightly and roll into 9 small buns.
Cover with cling film and let rise again for 30 minutes.
Pipe the crossing mixture on the dough and let bake for about 30-45 minutes at 180 degrees C.
